Old Business:
-
Fire Marshal inspection - John has not had time to meet with building Principals regarding the Fire Marshal report. He will try to get these scheduled by the next H&S meeting.
-
OSHA visit - We haven’t heard anything from OSHA yet. John has sent them data they requested but no report yet.
-
Snow removal - Staffing is down in the maintenance department. Fire exits will be cleared within 24 hours. Pathways beyond the immediate egress entrance won’t be cleared.
-
-
New Business:
-
Asbestos Abatement - There is a significant amount of abatement that will need to happen at the HS before the bond project. It will be a full containment and will require air sampling throughout the building. This is the same situation in Dassel for the two classrooms being remodeled.
-
Health and Safety Program Gap Analysis - this was started this week with IEA Institute. John sent out emails with questions so information can be put in the H&S binders. One area we had a gap was noise monitoring.
-
Lead in Water - We may be limiting our access to faucet fixtures used for drinking water due to the lead in water state requirements going into effect on 7/1/2024. This committee will need to come up with a plan. John has a list and would like to come up with a plan prior to 7/1 so testing can be done. Some fixtures will need to have a sign that indicates it is a hand washing fixture only. The list will be sent out ahead of time so Building Principals can come prepared at the February meeting.

Minutes from the prior meeting were reviewed. Motion by Raymond, second by Johnson, approved.
-
First Report of Injuries: Marianne reported there have been injuries to staff caused by students. Behavior training was talked about with staff from the Special education department. There has been one fall due to potholes north of the building, a ladder injury and one head injury. There was lost time with some of these injuries.
-
Chemical Collection Summer 2023 - University of Minnesota collected chemicals this summer. Chemical disposal should happen at least every 180 days. Discussion was had regarding disposing of Sharps. Currently Jenny brings these to Waste Management in Buffalo for free disposal. It was agreed this process would continue.
New Business
-
Fire Marshal inspection - The Fire Marshal was here in May. John went through some of the items on the report. Decorative lights, like Christmas lights can only be up for 90 days so it was decided November through January will be the only time lights can be hung and on. Permanent items hanging from ceiling grids are not allowed and must be removed immediately. John will work with each building to go through the rest of the items on the inspection report.
-
OSHA inspection - the District had a surprise OSHA inspection on November 29. There will be a virtual closing conference which could be 3 months from the date of inspection. Discussion was had about SDS and if staff know where to find them. Communication will go out to staff so they are aware where to find these. ERK and BBP training must be done for all staff before their first day of employment.
-
Snow removal - John reported snow will be removed from entrances and the parking lots earlier than it has been in the past and a liquid will be used instead of salt. Walk Like A Penguin campaign was discussed and communication will go out to staff.
